Mpumalanga Education MEC Majuba expresses concern in dropping interest in Mathematics Science and Technology subjects in the Province

Mpumalanga Education MEC Mr Bonakele Majuba is set to pay the OR Tambo Mathematics Science and Technology Academy at Emalahleni a visit later today to look into practical waysto increase pass rate and interest in Mathematics, Science and Technology among learners in the Province.
This was confirmed by the MEC’s office through a statement which also stated that a rollout programme for Coding and Robotics, Increasing the number of Technical High Schools as well as effectiveness of the OR Tambo Mathematics, Science and Technology Academy.
MEC Majuba expressed a decreasing number of learners interested in the said subjects and the dropping pass rate yearly.
“In 2020, the 101 Secondary Schools that offer these subjects on compulsory basis within the Province only registered 65% pass rate in the National Senior Certificate Examination which is below the overall provincial average.”
We need to get everyone on board to appreciate the significance of these subjects and the role they play towards the growth and development of our Province. It is on those basis that every effort must be made to ensure that these subjects are accessible, fashionable and easy for every learner to comprehend” said MEC.
He is set to be accompanied by Standard Bank from 10:00am.
