A 31 years old mother is set to remain in police custody until second court appearance on June 30th for the alleged murder of her two children and husband.
It is said according to Police Spokesperson Captain Phumelelo Dlhamini that Maphephi Alinah Mokwena allegedly fed three of her children 10, 11 and 14 and their 49 years old father a brown soup with bread before heading to school and work, Wednesday morning June 22.
The 11 years old girl fortunately survived the alleged poisoning.
“The children complained of stomach pain at school and were taken to hospital where they lost their lives. Their father also fell ill while at work and was taken to hospital where he also passed away.”
“On Thursday, 23 June 2022, the post-mortem revealed that the cause of death is poisoning. During further investigation, the mother of the children admitted that she bought poison called Temik to poison the soup. She was arrested and detained at Bethlehem police station” added Captain Dlhamini.
Maphephi was arrested together with 21 years old Mantwa Maria Mokwena who was released on warning by the Bethlehem Magistrates Court but will return to court on the same day for formal bail application.
