Moroka Swallows gets monetary fine for misconduct

One of the oldest soccer teams in South African football and the Premier Soccer League Moroka Swallows received a rather slap on wrist punishment for their poor and disappointing conduct this past festive season.

The dispute between the team and it’s staff members ended up with players boycotting two scheduled games on December 27th and 30th 2024 between Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows allegedly over payment issues.

The Soweto giant soccer team pleaded guilty to charges of misconduct and bringing the Premier Soccer League into disrepute on Thursday when they appeared before the PSL’s Disciplinary Committee after they failed to honour their DStv Premiership fixtures.

They faced a monetary fine, major points deduction or even expulsion from the league.

This was confirmed by PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu who published a statement on league’s website saying the club will forfeit the points from those matches with a 3-0 scoreline to their opponents, and the club received an effective R400 000 fine.

They had a R1-million sanction imposed on them, but R600 000 was suspended for two years.

Swallows were also warned that a future transgression of the same nature could see them face expulsion from the league.
