Man remains in police custody for attempted murder in Mmametlhake

A 59 years old woman and her sister escaped death after suffering multiple stab wounds and assault with a deadly weapon.
All this occurred two days before Christmas on December 23rd, 2022 at the hands of her 61 years old partner.
Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said that the victim’s neighbours were woken up by people screaming for help around 2am on the above mentioned date, upon arrival on the scene they found the victim together with her sister locked in a house that was up in flames and the perpetrator was no where to be found at their house in Boiketlong section, Mmametlhake.
“According to the report, the couple was staying in the victim’s house together with the victim’s sister. It is alleged that on 23 December 2022 around 02h00 am, the suspect allegedly had an argument with his 59-year-old female partner, which unfortunately turned ugly and the victim reportedly tried to expel him from the house.”
“He allegedly refused to leave and they then slept in separate bedrooms for that night. The victim reportedly slept with her sister in the same bedroom. Shortly, the suspect allegedly went into the victim’s room and stabbed her multiple times with a knife on her right upper body, then further struck her on the head with a garden fork.”
Mohlala added that the sister was forcefully pushed away as she was trying to intervene. The 61 years old, Matsobane Seema then came back with hot water and poured it over the woman.
He then locked the house and left after setting it alight.
“community members came to their rescue where they managed to breakdown the burglar proofs of the bedroom windows in order to set them free from the flames. The two victims were taken to hospital for medical attention whilst the Fire and Rescue workers managed to extinguish the fire” said Mohlala.
Seema has been remanded in police custody after making an appearance at Mbibana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, January 4th. He handed himself over to the police a day before, on the 3rd.
He is facing charges of attempted murder, arson and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
