Man assaults grandson after killing his wife

A case against a 52 years old man accused of killing his wife has been postponed to April 19th pending transfer to the regional court.
It is said the 52 years old John Nkgudi came home drunk on January 28th, 2023 and started arguing with his 51 years old wife who was in their 6 years old grandson’s room.
As the argument started getting louder, he then allegedly went outside and came back with a stick, shovel and an axe and started assaulting the deceased. She then ran away to the bathroom.
Upon realizing that the grandson was taking a video, he also assaulted the toddler with a shovel after taking the phone away from.
NPA Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana also said that Nkgudi then locked the toddler inside a wardrobe and fled the scene.
“The body of the deceased was discovered the following day by their daughter when she returned from work. When she could not open the door, she broke in and found her wounded son in the wardrobe and called the police.”
“The mother was declared dead on the scene. The father was arrested two days later 30 January 2023, at a shack in Vukuzenzele. After his arrest he took the police to a place where he hid his clothes with blood stains” said Mahanjana.
