Two minor girls who were victims of sexual assault finally got their justice after the 38 years old perpetrator gets sentenced to two life sentences behind bars by the Bhisho High Court.
Xola Mayedwa from Peddie who raped two young girls who were nine (9) and eleven (11) years old at the time of the ordeal in September 2018, traumatised the victims and also physically assaulted them.
National Prosecution Authority Regional Spokesperson in the Eastern Cape Anelisa Ngcakani said that Mayedwa raped the victims at the same time.
She said that the three young girls were playing when he lured them into his home where he locked them inside his house after luring them in.
He started with the nine years old before going to the 11 years old victim.
“As he was raping her, the 11-year-old tried to physically stop him. However, he assaulted her, hitting her on the face with a fist. Once he finished raping the nine- year-old, he then raped the 11-year-old.”
“The third child, a nine-year-old girl, hid behind a couch as he raped the other two. Fortunately, she was not raped” said Ngcakani.
The children managed to escape and reported the crimes to a member of the community and he was arrested the following day by the Peddie police.
The prosecutor, Advocate Vatiswa Jodwana-Blayi, said Mayedwa abused his position around the community towards the victims as they knew him well and had no reason to assume otherwise.
βHe betrayed the children, they went into his house because they trusted him. He also showed no remorse throughout the trial,β she said.
Mayedwa had been out on bail all along during his trial.
The NPA has welcomed the sentence and praised the Police for a job well done in making sure that the convict does not evade his trial.
