Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola has thanked community for their assistance provided in the rearrest of all 69 detainees who escaped from Malmesbury detention facility late this week.

During his visit at the facility on Saturday, Minister Lamola said that they have successfully managed to arrest 8 of the 69 who escaped as of Saturday.

The detainees had overpowered guards during an exercise at the time when escaped.

Lamola announced Sunday that all the escapees from Malmesbury have been rearrested within 76 hours.

“To all the Community members who provided critical information, thank you. We also thank dedicated officials who worked round the clock to restore stability” said Lamola.
