Lesufi: “Number of Learners Doing Accounting in Gauteng Schools is Dropping”

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says the province is not doing good in number of learners showing interest in accounting as a subject.

He said this in a tweet earlier today that the number of learners who registered for accounting in 2019 compared to 2008 has dropped by more than half.

Which is not a good thing for our future economists, accountants and business people.

“In 2008 we had 35 139 learners taking accounting but in 2019 this number dropped badly to 14 768 learners, so almost half of our learners are no longer willing to do accounting” said Lesufi.

Results for NSC matric will officially be released in the late afternoon today.
