Devastating scenes of destruction displayed in KwaZulu Natal overnight following the arrest of former President Jacob Zuma who handed himself over to the police at Escourt Correctional Services just before Wednesday midnight.
Mr Zuma was ordered to hand himself over to the correctional service facility by the Constitutional Court earlier this month for contempt.
He refused on several occasions to testify at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture calling for the recusal of Chairperson DCJ Raymond Zondo.
As a result of his arrest several protesters who are said to be “pro-Zuma” supporters have brought KZN to a standstill.
Major disruptions occurred at the land border post and N3 highway near Mooi River, about 25 trucks have been set alight not far from where the former president is under custody.
He also lost court case on Friday where he called for the suspension of his arrest. A court in Pietermaritzburg dismissed it with costs.
The protest stand a day after former President Zuma’s arrest outside a correctional service he is held at.
Police in the province say they are deploying more officials to various areas in the province.
