The Parliamentary Presiding Officers have joined President Ramaphosa in calling for calm and upholding of the rule of law in KZN following scenes of “free Jacob Zuma” which were followed by violent protests.
Following the arrest of former President Jacob Zuma this past Wednesday, disruptions and protests from various parts of KZN ensued where motor vehicles and trucks were set alight.

Parliamentary officers say while the right to a peaceful protest is still enjoyed by every citizen in the country supported by the Constitution, it should be done responsibly so.
Officers said that while they sympathize with the former President, the rule of law must still prevail and be observed by all.
It was reported by the KZN provincial government that as a result of the protest, the damage to the economy and infrastructure was estimated to being around R 100million.
Various arrests have been made.
