The Itireleng community members in Kgabalatsane in the North West say they have had enough of lies and empty promises given to them by the Department of Basic Education in the province.

The community say the Department has failed to keep up to the promise they made to them back in 2009 when the conversation between them and the Department started after requesting that a primary school be built in their community to avoid travel costs and other unforeseen dangers or disadvantages that might occur as their children travel far, kilometers just to access school.

Speaking earlier today on the reopening of 2022 academic calendar, parents found themselves having to fight for a school they allege to have been promised recently again by the Department.

South African National Civic Organization (Sanco) representative in the area said that the Department previously had an excuse of unavailability of vacant land to build the school back in 2012, he said that their concern was successfully attended to after accompanying the Department to the tribal authority to ask for a vacant land which was made available to them.

“After securing the land, the Department then started making runarounds, empty promises and taking us from pillar to post, since 2012. Finally in a meeting we had together with them late last year they promised to give us mobile classes while they still making a plan to build a school. Surprising enough to this date we are still waiting.”

The parents today together with some concerned community members decided to then take their complaint to the district offices.
