Limpopo police confirm an arrest of three Home Affairs officials who instead of doing their job demanded a R 10 000.00 bribe.

Three suspects aged between 30 and 42 who are immigration officers came across a foreign national who had no legal documents to support his stay in the country in Jane Furse, Limpopo while conducting an inspection.

Hawks spokesperson Capt Matimba Maluleke said they apprehended the suspects after being alerted about the matter.

“The suspects who include a Nebo home affairs control immigration officer and two Jane Furse home affairs immigration officers allegedly conducted a routine inspection at one of the foreign-owned shops and found an undocumented immigrant.

“Instead of arresting him, the officials allegedly demanded a R10,000 gratification for his freedom. The amount was reportedly reduced to R4,000 and it was paid by the victim to the suspects,” said Maluleke.

The said suspects are expected to appear at Motetema magistrate’s court today.
