The family of three who had been confirmed positive but refused to cooperate with health officials when when ordered to self quarantine are said to be German citizens.

This was revealed by Gauteng MEC for health Bandile Masuku in his affidavit filed in the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg, seeking an order for the trio’s arrest.

The family, mother, father and daughter had also lied about the father’s whereabouts and a place where they will be doing self quarantine. They provided a bed and breakfast address to the health officials they first tested at but later moved to another bed and breakfast.

The family was cornered and apprehended on Tuesday, two days after tests confirmed the mother and her 14-year-old daughter had tested positive for the novel Covid-19.

Gauteng health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku said they are not sure as to how many people the family have come in contact with.

He also said that the mother and the daughter first violated rules of self quarantine when they moved around without even informing the authorities.

Dr Masuku said it is disappointing that they had to get a court order to force this family to comply so they don’t spread covid-19.
