Drug trafficker arrested 7 years ago travelling from Brazil gets 10 years in prison

A music competition Idol SA contestant and music artist hopeful has unfortunately turned from a potential musician to a convicted drug trafficker.

31 years old Ibrahim Cook who was caught 7 years ago, 2014 with drugs worth R300 000 street value has now been sentenced to 10 years in prison having been caught from abroad.

Police Spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo says Cook was coming from Sao Paulo in Brazil when he was found in possession of one kilogram of cocaine powder with the street value of approximately R300 000.

He was arrested at the King Shaka International Airport on 10 December 2014 after information of drug trafficking was received by the Hawks members from the Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation.

An operation was setup after receiving the said tipoff.

He had been making several times appearances in court until he was sentenced on Thursday, 30 September 2021.
