The division within the Bakgatlha Ba Mocha Tribal Authority in Pankop has seen the community being further divided as police get forced to intervene to solve the quarrel.
This follows an incident where the closure of the tribal offices occurred in November 2020 where financial reports as well as commission of inquiry report on chieftaincy disputes were demanded by a certain group who said they are from within the community.
Their actions led to the offices being forcefully closed since then, leading to certain services by the office to the community being severely disrupted.
This forced an opposing group of young people calling for an urgent meeting for the matter to be resolved where the chains and locks that were used to lock the offices were destroyed so as to gain entry for tribal offices and services to resume.
The said group from the opposing young people said that the will not accept any anarchy from disgruntled community members with biased ulterior motives to benefit themselves.
A leader of the group of people who allegedly closed the offices, Solomon Mhlongo-Rankapole said that they are going to the offices again to close them since they have heard that they were forcefully opened.
“Those offices will not function properly until our demands are met, we need that inquiry report and those financial reports” he said.
The Tribal Authority said that they are taking the matter to court to seek an interdict.
“We will ensure that the community has an unconditional access to the offices, their safety is also our priority and we will serve them with protection order papers should they come to disrupt the offices again” said Chief Ntokolo Maloka.
