Basic Education Dept Clarifies 20% Pass Mark in Grade 7-9 Mathematics Media Reports

Department of Basic Education says they are not happy with recent reports by various media house that had suggested that the pass mark for grades 7-9 has dropped to 20% passing mark in mathematics.

Speaking a media statement the said this is not the first time some media house have decided to publish false information as the matter was clarified back in 2016 when it was first written about.

The department said this information was recently published by BusinessTech earlier this month and was followed by Cape Talk.

They have also warned people not to fall victim of false information and rather pay attention to what they are being told/reading.

“South Africans are urged to refrain from sharing incorrect and misleading content that causes confusion and panic especially among learners and parents” said the department.

On 2019 matric results the department said they are ready for the release on 8th January.
