The African National Congress (ANC) says they have lost a one remarkable, irreplaceable giant in Jackson Mthembu.

Described by many as a humble and respectful person, the ANC say Mthembu was one of the very few Cadres who even in most trying times would remain calm and respectful.

Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Jessie Duarte said that she still can’t believe the Mr Mthembu is no more and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

She said that Mthembu can be counted among young people during his youthful times who played a huge role in fighting the apartheid regime.

“The ANC has lost a giant man who has come a long way with the with the organisation from a young student in the 70s. Comrade Jackson grew into one of those formidable political actors in the country who sincerely believed SA could be transformed to make a better life for all of its people” said DSG Duarte.

Duarte said that Mthembu played a pivotal role in setting up structures of the ANC after its unbanning in 1990 under the banner of National Reception Committee.

“His consistency and ability to engage and win over those who disagreed with him, saw Mvelase excel in the machinery of the ANC, eventually serving as its national Spokesperson and the Chief Whip of the ANC in Parliament.”

Funeral arrangements yet to be announced.
