The Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) in partnership with Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security & Liaison together with Interfaith Communities conducted Easter Road Safety Prayer Day between Nokaneng and Seabe.

The prayer session was first held at a spot which has claimed lives in several occasions in the past on accidents.

Speaking to Senior official from the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) Mankga Mamabolo, he said that the session was also in an effort to continue with AARTO & road safety campaign and awareness and people in learning more about the agency more especially in the rural areas.

“Lately there has been negative comments and perceptions about AARTO where people have been lied to being told that we are here to take their drivers licenses or some of them to jail while in fact we are here to do the exact opposite.”

“Our mandate is to educate people about how best they can pay their traffic fines but most importantly how best can they make sure that they don’t find themselves in that situation again, people just need to practice basic road safety rules, buckle up, no drink driving, overtake only when it is safe to do so and most importantly respect each other on the road.”

Mamabolo also dismissed the myth that AARTO will be taking people’s drivers licenses if they violate traffic rules.
