A case against a former Provincial Senior traffic officer has been postponed to April 20, 2022 pending further investigations.

Levy Ikaneng is charged with two counts of negligent driving and failure or refusal to give blood/breath sample, both charges being in contravention of the Road Traffic Act.

NPA Spokesperson in the province Henry Mamothame said that Ikaneng was allegedly arrested on 23 April 2016 after he knocked down a man with a Volvo sedan in Tlhabane.

Upon his arrest, Ikaneng refused to cooperate with the orders given by his colleagues as he was suspected to being under the influence of alcohol.

Following further investigations into matter, it was later discovered that Ikaneng is the husband to a senior magistrate and somehow the case disappeared without it being handed over for prosecution.

Three years later the case was brought back in court following the complainant of the family to the NPA.

Mamothame also said that the pedestrian who was knocked down by Ikaneng is said to be bedridden and wheelchair confined as a result of the incident.

Ikaneng is currently out on a warning and the court warned him not to interfere with the state witnesses and to avail himself on the next court appearance.
