A case against Police Sergeant was postponed to 15 September for formal bail application.
The 50-year-old Sergeant faces two counts of rape for allegedly raping a 14 years old daughter of his girlfriend on several occasions from year 2020.
The man who is said to have been living with the mentioned two, mother and daughter, allegedly recently raped the young girl again on August 25th, 2021 as he came home from work.
This is according to NPA Spokesperson in the area Anelisa Ngcakani who also said that the suspect came home from work on the 25th, allegedly to find the victim by herself.
“The teenage girl was in the kitchen when he allegedly approached her and touched her in an inappropriate manner. It is alleged that she resisted his advances.”
“It is further alleged that he then went into his room. She then followed him and asked him if she should prepare food for him as this was a chore delegated to her by him and her mother. The Sergeant instead allegedly raped her.”
Ngcakani added that the victim reported the matter to her aunt immediately after the incident and she accompanied her to police station.
He was arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate on 28 August 2021 and made a brief appearance at the East London Magistrate’s Court.
The NPA said they will oppose bail as this is a schedule 6 offence which means that it falls under the most serious category of offences for purposes of bail.
It is said that the mother is also a police officer.
