The long chieftaincy disputes in the Maloka royal family in the outskirts of Mpumalanga, Pankop that goes way back to the reign of late former Bophuthatswana President Lucas Mangope seems to have reached an end following a Nhlapo Commission report that was released by Mpumalanga Cogta MEC Mandla Msibi last week.

The report which comes after a lot of turmoil within the Pankop community and tribal office, suggests that the incumbent Chief Ntokolo Maloka vacates offices to make way for incoming Harries Maloka who was removed over three decades ago.

The delay of the release of the report saw the tribal offices being forcefully closed in November 2020 and earlier this month by a group of community members demanding the release of both commission of inquiry report on chieftaincy disputes and financial reports.

The incoming, Harries Maloka, lodged a complaint in 2011 about the chieftaincy and later on made his submission during a public hearing in Nokaneng 2014.

Eventually the commission was set up under Section 25 of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act as amended in 2009, giving it authority to investigate and make recommendations on whether or not positions of traditional leadership were established in accordance with customary law and customs.

The 46 page long report which Page3 has in possession digitally recommends that the Premier considers the contents of the report when making the decision.

Both parties from the Maloka royal family are yet to comment on the report while the reigning requested some time to study the report.
