Minister in the presidency Mr Jackson Mthembu passes away, confirmed by President Ramaphosa

The President of South Africa and African National Congress (ANC) President Matamela Ramaohosa has confirmed the passing of the Minister in the presidency Mr Jackson Mthembu who unfortunately lost a battle to Covid-19.

It is said according to the statement by the President the Mr Mthembu passed away earlier today.

“It is with deep sorrow and shock that we announce that Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu passed away earlier today from COVID-related complications. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of loss.”

I extend my deepest sympathies to the Minister’s family, to his colleagues, comrades and many friends.

Minister Mthembu was an exemplary leader, an activist and life-long champion of freedom and democracy. He was a much-loved and greatly respected colleague and comrade, whose passing leaves our nation at a loss.

This was just after a week Minister Mthembu had tested positive of Covid-19.
