Man arrested for contempt of court

A 44 years old man has pleaded guilty for contempt of court after failing to appear following his release on bail.

Lesley Skhumbuzo Khathi was arrested in January 2024 for a house breaking and theft case.It was established during the profiling that he is out on bail on a different case in Witbank of armed robbery on SBV case.

Investigations further revealed that he was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. He was only released on bail after appealing the sentence to the High Court.

He was awaiting the High Court decision on his sentence, when he contravened the bail conditions. As a result of the contravension, a warrant of arrest was issued against him where he was arrested and pleaded guilty.

While awaiting the High Court decision, the accused was sentenced to R1000 fine or three years imprisonment.
