As the first sitting of the 7th administration in the National Assembly was busy electing and voting for the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, former President Jacob Zuma’s MK Party released a statement about a planned national address by their leader Jacob Zuma himself.

While the statement was particularly specific on the topic, it read that Mr Zuma will be focusing on “the current political situation in the country”.

This is also as the party had decided to boycott the sitting of the National Assembly where 349 members were sworn in by the Chief Justice Raymond Zondo earlier today, 14th June 2024, Friday.

“President Jacob Zuma will address the nation at a pivotal media conference regarding the current political situation and ongoing developments in South Africa, Covering a range of topics that are currently vital to the national discourse and the future trajectory of the nation.”

“The party made an announcement on the eve of IEC’s election results declaration in contestation of the results.”

They were demanding either a recount or rerun of the elections saying the elections were not free and fair.

They lodged a court application asking the court to force the National Assembly to postpone the sitting because they are not happy with the results.

The National Assembly however, decided to continue in their absence.

Election of Premiers, Speakers in various Provincial Legislatures continued even in the KZN where they received majority of the votes but they were kept out by partnership of numerous political parties.
