Mpumalanga traffic officer arrested for allegedly being involved in a failed CIT heist

Police in Mpumalanga has confirmed an arrest of a w9 years old traffic old who was allegedly involved in a failed cash-in-transit heist in Hazyview.
Captain Dineo Sekgotodi of the Hawks said that it is alleged that an Armoured Vehicle of Fidelity Security Company was traveling from White River to Hazyview, escorted by a TSU Vehicle this past Thursday around 13:30.
Just as the AV turned right at the White River/Hazyview junction into Hazyview, it was rammed by a grey Mercedes-Benz sedan.
Shortly after that, the suspects started shooting where security ended up getting injured.
“The TSU also arrived and returned fire. According to information the suspects fled with three other sedan vehicles. Witnesses indicated that the vehicle of the accused was seen transporting the suspect and firearms which were used during the failed heist.”
The officer, Khanyisile Viola Nyalunga got positively linked to the case following a lead that was followed by investigators. Upon arrival at her house, stolen vehicles which were also seen on the crime scene was found parked in her yard.




“The vehicles were confiscated and the suspect was also arrested. During preliminary investigation it was discovered that the vehicles recovered were stolen. The silver Mercedes Benz ML 250 stolen at Mhala Mpumalanga in June 2023 and Mercedes benz C class sedan stolen at Vosloorus in February 2021.”
Captain Sekgotodi added that Nyalunga was charged for Conspiracy to commit crime, ie Robbery under aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
She remains in police custody following second short court appearance at Hazyview Magistrate Court for formal bail application today.
