The African National Congress (ANC) found themselves in the news for the most part of yesterday for wrong reasons and not so much about the opening of their 55th National Elective Conference.
However, taking into consideration the current developments within the party, one might say what happened yesterday was to be expected.
The opening of the conference went into chaos just as the outgoing party President Matamela Ramaphosa was giving a political report on the podium receiving heckling and singing from party members on the floor particularly from KwaZulu-Natal province.
Bug the disruption in conference started when the party Chairperson Gwede Mantashe first went to podium. He was crowded by chanting and heckling with members saying “load shedding, load shedding”.
Few minutes into Ramaphosa’s speech as they were chanting and singing “wenzeni uZuma” (what has Zuma done), the party Chairperson Mantashe had to intervene by interrupting his speech to call for security and threatening to remove any member displaying disorderly conduct.
It was only after KZN Chairperson Sboniso Duma pleaded with the members to calm down and top interrupting the conference.
Most parts of the disruption in the conference started just as former President Jacob Zuma entered.
