Money laundering suspects hand themselves over after escaping

Police have confirmed a re-arrest of two money laundering suspects who escaped arrest earlier this month.

The 37 years old Martin Prince Lekhuleni and 24 years old Eunice Lekhuleni were apprehended during a multidisciplinary integrated take down operation “Blood Orange on the early hours of Friday, 02 December 2022.

It is alleged that Lekhuleni paid gratification into the accounts of Field Rangers and their families for tactical information in Kruger National Park to assist poaching syndicates.

Hawks Spokesperson in Mpumalanga Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said that the family of the former field ranger, Chikwa David Maluleke; Joyce Maluleke (51), Stephinah Mbhombi (52), Oters Maluleke (27), Miyelani Maluleke (29) and Nkhesane Maluleke (22) were released on R5000 bail each and the family of a former field ranger, Solly Ubisi; Thandi Makhuvele (37), Alsina Mkhonto (61), Ignatia Mnisi (36), Given Mzimba (28) were released on R3000 each.

Following their escape, on December 2nd, they handed themselves over to the police on the 14th after a wide publication of their pictures on various media outlets.

Eunice Lekhuleni was released on R5000 bail and her case was postponed to 27 January 2023 for further investigation.

Martin Prince Lekhuleni was remanded in custody and his matter was postponed to Monday, 19 December 2022 for a formal bail application.

The case was postponed to 27 January 2023 for further investigation and to join the suspects together.
