A 42 years old serial has been sentenced to two life terms plus 12 years imprisonment after being positively linked to two other rapes.
KwaMhlanga Regional Court in Mpumalanga heard that the now convicted Johannes Tsepo Molobi started being on police radar after his first two victims reported that he broke into a house in July 2012 at Zakheni where he found two women and took turns on them when forced himself on them after threatening to harm them.
The victims reported the matter to the police after he fled the scene leaving them vulnerable and helpless. At the time they did not know who he was.
It is said that he continued with his sexual violations on several victims until he forced himself on his girlfriend in September 2020 on the streets and stabbed her multiple times.
She reported the matter to the police, as a result, following his arrest, DNA also linked him to other rape cases. During the trial, Regional Court Prosecutor Biance Harmse presented strong evidence, including testimonies from the victims and first responders, positive DNA results connecting Molobi to the crimes and J88 medical reports confirming injuries and sexual assault.
The court found the state’s evidence credible and convicted Molobi on three counts of rape and one count of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Prosecutor Harmse also managed to convince the court to give him maximum sentence saying Molobi failed to show any remorse for his actions.
