The High Court in Limpopo, sitting in Polokwane heard how the 33 years old Ashan Fraz Cheema planned to kill Mohlale Precious Magabane who was his girlfriend at the time.
Cheema confessed to his friend Raza Ali who later on became a friend of court, the problems he had been having with Magabane and told him on December 23, 2018 that he killed her using a knife.
Ali the told the Court that Cheema called him asking for refuse bags to put Magabane’s body parts because he had dismembered her.
Mashudu Malabi Dzhangi, NPA Regional Spokesperson in Limpopo said that Cheema played gimmicks with the case having fired his legal representatives more than seven times just to delay the processes. He ended up representing himself in the case.
Dzhangi said the Court heard how Cheema confessed to Ali about driving around disposing of the deceased’s body parts at Lydenburg mountain along R37 road.
“He contacted him again, wanting his help to bury the deceased’s head and hands at Mashifane Park sports ground. The DNA proves that the body parts belong to the deceased. Cheema pleaded not guilty to all these offences and the court found him guilty as charged.”
State lawyer Nkhetheni Munyai pleaded with Court to not be lenient to Cheema having showed no sign of remorse because to this date the family is yet to locate body parts of Magabane who left behind her two kids.
Presiding the over the case, Judge President Ephraim Makgoba sentenced Cheema to life in prison, two years for theft and five years for defeating the ends of justice.
