Nigerian national who pretended to be a Hawks official remanded in police custody

A 42 years old Nigerian national who pretended to be a Hawks official has been denied bail after making a brief appearance at the Special Commercial Crimes Court in Tshwane.

It is said according to NPA Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana that Stanley Ewulu and his co-accused Peter Molomo approached the complainant, and introduced themselves as Hawks investigators from the Pretoria office.

“They demanded R300 000 to destroy a case docket that was opened against him and also promised to also hand over a vehicle that belonged to the complainant as well as his refugee documents that were confiscated by the Sunnyside Police.”

The matter was then reported to the Hawks a trap was set for the two accused.

They were arrested at Time Square in Menlyn Pretoria after a successful entrapment operation.

The suspects are due to appear again in court on June 3, 2022 pending further investigations.
