Several victims multiple counts of rape and assault have finally gotten justice following a heavy sentencing of a serial rapist, Takalani Mulaudzi by the High Court in Tshwane.
The 30 years old Mulaudzi who was caught four (4) years later into his evil acts continued to declare his innocence even when evidence presented in court said otherwise.
National Prosecution Authority (NPA) Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said that Mulaudzi started committing these offences in 2015 in and around Tshwane West when he was 23 years old.
He, from time to time would target unsuspecting vulnerable victims and first start by making them feel comfortable with him before attacking them.
“He targeted vulnerable women that were either walking alone or in pairs in the evenings. He would threaten them with an object or a knife, then drag them to the closest veld, rape them, take their belongings such as cellphones, money, laptops and leave them.”
“The accused will have conversations with the victims and ask them personal questions about their lives. One victim testified in court that Mulaudzi told her that he was studying law while he was raping her.”
Mahanjana added that among Mulaudzi’s victims was one woman whom he found at Wespark, started a short conversation with and later on forced her into the bushes where he forced himself on after putting cable ties on her.
“After the incident, Mulaudzi directed her to go towards Magalies freeway where he professed his love and that he regretted his actions. He raped her again continuously the entire night until the following morning.”
His acts finally ended in July 2019 after being traced a cellphone he stole from one of his victims.
He was furthermore connected to other rape cases through his DNA.
He was convicted of 15 counts of rape, 5 counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, 3 counts of kidnapping and 1 count of grievous body harm.
Presiding over case was Judge Maumela who handed down 7 life terms and 173 years imprisonment on all counts.
During his plea explanation, Mulaudzi denied raping the women multiple times, but admitted to only raping them once at a time.
NPA welcomed the sentencing and applauded law enforcement officials who played a role in making sure that Mulaudzi is brought to book.
