What You Need to Know about R 350.00 Unemployment Grant

With just a day ahead of official launch of Covid-19 Social Relief Fund for the unemployed, Department of Social Development has released requirements outlining who is eligible for the fund and who is not.

In a statement last night, the department also warned people to not give away their sensitive information to any suspecting fraudsters.

“We will never ask for your account pin number of your CVV number” said the department.

No applications will be made at the SASSA offices, they can either be made through WhatsApp 060 012 3456, USSD *134*7737# or through foot agents who yet to be dispatched to assist those who do not have access to technology.

What you need to know:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or above,
  • Must be unemployed and not be a recipient of any government grant including UIF and NSFAS,
  • Not living in a government funded or subsidised institution,
  • Must be a South African citizen within the borders of the country or a refugee registered with Home Affairs Department.

The department further elaborated that banking details will be requested once the application has been approved and money will be paid to approved bank accounts only or through money transfers to those who have bank accounts.

“This grant is just made to assist people to survive up until October” they said.

Minister Lindiwe Zulu will be making an official launch on Monday.
