The embattled Ditsobotla Local Municipality yet again sends a heartbreaking messaging to its staff about their payment for May.
In a media statement circulated on social media the Municipality said that it doesn’t have funds to make salary payment for May because there is no money.
Earlier this year the Municipality did the same thing for the same reason but ended up making late payments, seven days later.
South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) SG Dumisane Magagula said in March when the municipality failed to make payments that they had established that the municipality’s financial problems were worsened by its failure to bill consumers since July 2022, as a result, the municipality is owed over R300 million by residents, businesses and government departments.
The municipality pleaded with the workers to make arrangements with their creditors while they work on finding a solution.
“This communication serves the purpose to inform the workers of the critical financial situation the municipality is facing. We regret to inform you that the municipality is unable to make salary payments for the month of May 2023 until further notice shall be issued on the date of payment.”
“Workers are also notified that claims on overtime worked will be paid once the main salary is paid” said the Acting Municipal Manager Mamorena Lehoko through the statement.
