Police in the North West have condemned an irresponsible act of one of their own members who was seen in a video that went viral where he was seen so drunk that he couldn’t even stand up straight.
In a video that was circulated on social media on Saturday, the said Constable had crashed into a fence of one of the houses at Wolmaranstad in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District driving a police vehicle in full uniform.
Police spokesperson in the Province Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said that the department of South African Police Service strongly condemned the act of the member and subsequent to the incident, a case of driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and /or negligent driving was opened for investigation while the Constable was detained.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the Constable is not authorised to drive state motor vehicle. As a result, he will also face an additional charge of use of motor vehicle without owner’s consent. Departmental investigation will also be instituted against the member in terms of SAPS Discipline Regulations” said Brigadier Mokgwabone.
He added that the said Constable was released today [Sunday] on R500.00 bail, and is expected to appear in the Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 30 November 2020, facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and /or negligent driving and use of motor vehicle without owner’s consent.
