As unrest continues in greater parts of KZN and Gauteng, truckers were the first to be at the receiving end of the protest with some of them being burned to ashes alongside N3 road near Mooiriver.
Below is a video of a truck that is seen dumping about 300 000 litres of milk.
The video was shared “fleet watch” on Facebook who said that the dumping was not in spite of what is happening in the country but because the milk has been stored in the tankers longer than it should be.
“What you see in this video is not any malicious action on the part of these transporters as a “we’ll get back at ya for your rampant looting”. Rather, the milk has sat in the tankers for a period of time and has now gone sour and is unusable.”
“Instead of pouring it down the drain along with all the money that is being lost along the entire dairy industry supply chain, it is being discharged from the tankers onto this pasture field as fertiliser. Each of these tankers holds around 35 000 litres of milk so what you are seeing here is 105 000 litres of milk being discharged.”
The unrest and violent protests also led to fuel shortages in some parts of KZN as some of it was allegedly looted and delivery trucks were forced to be stopped in fear of further looting
