University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) proposal for academics to continue online has been with resistance from the students and bodies that represent them.

The university had proposed that since it is not know when will the lockdown end, it is equally crucial that all options of be explored for academics to continue.

Students replied on social media saying it was immature and inconsiderate of the institution to make such a suggestion not taking into consideration how expensive data is and how hard it is for students in the rural areas to even access devices eligible for the service.

In a letter written by the university’s Student Representative Council (SRC) they called for the proposal and all online activities to be suspended until April 30.
