Two Mozambicans caught transporting counterfeit goods worth over a million

Two Mozambican nationals have been found guilty for contravening customs and excise act by the Komatipoort Specialised Commercial Crime Court.

Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said that Sibusiso Vincent Fakude and Anastercia Timane, aged 41 and 43 respectively, were arrested at Lebombo Border Port of Entry, while transporting counterfeit goods (sneakers) from Mozambique into the Republic of South Africa without proper documentation.

It is said that the goods were worth an estimated value of a little over R 1,9million.

Fakude was sentenced to 3 months direct imprisonment or R 5000.00 fine.

Whereas Anastercia Timane was convicted on count no 3 to count no 733  and sentenced to  R100 000.00 or 3 years imprisonment, of which half is suspended for 5 years on condition that accused not be convicted and found guilty of Contravening the provisions of the Counterfeit Goods Act, Act 37 of 1997 in the period of suspended sentence.
