The call for government to make sanitary towels compulsory and tax free has been intensifying for the past years but the call seems to be falling on deaf ears as many activists believe.

Some of them asked if it is really necessary to give condoms away for free whereas sex can be planned instead of giving sanitary towels for free because it is a natural thing which no woman can choose to ignore.

The call was heared and replied to by an NPO “Tsa Semzeni” from Phake in the outskirts of Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality in Mpumalanga who took time and donated a thousand (1000) sanitary towels and hygiene products to two high schools Mapala and Mabothe High School and Andries Mashile Primary School in Phake.

The organization which was founded over two years ago said giving back to the community they grew up in is one of their major projects which they do more often and one of the major contribution they have done lately was giving away PPE equipment in 2020 during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Spokesperson Morgan Modiba said that in also celebrating women’s month, they (Tsa Semzini) hope that this will inspire more people to also contribute as much as they can to help reduce girl child absenteeism because they can’t afford sanitary towels.

The pledge to the schools was greatly appreciated by both the learners and school management.
