Suspects accused of killing ANC councillors remanded in police custody

Suspects accused of shooting and killing two ANC councillors in execution style remain in police custody pending formal bail hearing on Tuesday.

The 50 years old Samuel Seruputlane, 43 years old Jabulane Petros Mashamaite, 42 years old James Mswezi Chuma and 42 years old Nkholo Frans Mangadi made a brief appearance in the Mokopane Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

NPA Regional Spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi the two ANC Mogalakwena councillors 54 & 32 years old, respectively, Vaaltyn Kekana and Ralph Kanyane where sitting in a motor vehicle when the incident occurred on July 29, 2019.

Dzangi also said that Kekana was allegedly about to table a report to the municipal council regarding irregular expenditure or maladministration in the Mogalakwena Municipality.

“the gunmen allegedly approached and immediately started shooting at them. They both died at the scene. The assailants then fled on foot and boarded a getaway motor vehicle which was waiting for them at a nearby street.”

“Jabulane Mashaite also has a pending case where he is facing 121 counts of corruption, including money laundering and conspiracy to commit corruption. He is also charged with 28 others, including their companies, in the Mogalakwena matter” said Dzhangi.

The matter was postponed to 19 July for pre- trial conference in the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
