Cape Town firefighters woke up to a busy Sunday as the Parliament catches fire.
The mayoral committee member for safety and security in the City of Cape Town JP Smith said the national assembly building was on fire and flames had spread to the roof.
It is also said that the alarm was raised at 5am and Smith said initial reports indicated the fire started in office space on the third floor and spread toward the gymnasium.
He added that 36 firefighters who were at the scene had requested more assistance and resources as they were failing to contain the fire.
