Police officers arrested for corruption investigation.and assault

A case against four police officers who were arrested on corruption allegations has been postponed to September 30th, 2024.

The officers aged 29 and 31 years old were attached to Crime Intelligence in Johannesburg.

Macdonald Musundwa Nethavhani, Fhumulani Netsiandaz, Wisani Ngobeni all aged 31 and the 29 yearsbold Ayanda Meya all Constables were arrested over the weekend for the a crime allegedly committed earlier this year, in in January.

Police spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said that a case was registered at Honeydew police station during February 2024, wherein it was reported that on Tuesday, 30 January 2024, a victim was approached by the police officers dressed in civilian clothes.

They drove with him and parked outside Fairlands police station and informed him that they were investigating a case of fraud against him.

They took him to his house in Fourways assaulted him and took his phones and transferred R180 000 from his bank account into one of theirs. They then threatened him before they dropped him off in Roodepoort.

Added to the case and arrested as well were two civilians, Ramiel Singh and Mphoto Cyril Sehoene aged 37 and 28 respectively, handed themselves over to the Hawks investigators.

The group made an appearance in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 August 2024. They were granted R3000 bail each, the case was postponed to 30 September 2024, pending further investigation.

They are facing corruption, extortion and assault charges.
