Police have had their hands full since the commence of national lockdown where rules and regulations were set out to limit certain movements and trading.

Illegal alcohol trading has been one of the reasons why most people were arrested.

Two police officers made brief appearance at Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft and defeating the ends of justice.

Thabang Selebale (40) and Tshepo Pooe (35) were arrested on Wednesday, 20 May 2020, for theft of liquor worth R10 000-00 it is said that these members connived with two civilians; Morgen Mofokeng (38) and Timothy Nkola (40) and stole liquor from three women.

“It is alleged that Mofokeng (38) and Nkola (40) convinced the victims to sell them stokvel club liquor.  During the transaction, Selebale and Pooe suddenly emerged, with an unmarked police vehicle, then threatened the women with arrest for contravening the Lockdown Regulations. They apparently confiscated the liquor and loaded it in a red mini cooper driven by one of the two civilians and they all drove off from the scene.”

Police also say that the alcohol was not documented at the police station and further investigations into the matter led to the arrest of these suspects.

Consequent to their court appearance, Nkola was released on warning while Mofokeng paid R50 000 bail.

They are all set to appear in court on June 17.
