North West Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena has applauded the team for their swift operation which led to the arrest of a suspect who has been linked to several crimes and been on the run for over a year now.
The suspect was regarded as one of the most notorious alleged car hijackers who operated around Mmakau, Klipgat and Akasia in Gauteng Province.
He was arrested on Tuesday, 11 August at Winterveldt through intelligence driven operation by Mmakau detectives and Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 1 Trio Crimes Task Team.
It was during this arrest when the police found the suspect in possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle which was positively linked to a car hijacking committed last month in Akasia.
“The police also found unlicensed firearm, ammunition and a cell phone belonging to one of the car hijackings victim during a search.”
They added that further investigations revealed that the suspect was wanted for five car hijackings committed around Mmakau between August 2019 and June 2020.
