National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Ngcakula seems to have ran out of luck and political protection she had been enjoying for a while.
Mapisa-Ngcakula made an urgent court application to have the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) give her dockets after hearing that the Hawks are planning to arrest on fraud and corruption allegations on a matter that dates back to when she was a Defense Minister.
She is said to have accepted bribe from a certain business person who had a contract with her department at the time amounting to R 4. 5million.
She also wanted the court to stop the NPA and Hawks from arresting citing reputational damage and danger to her health due to her age.
Arguing on the matter, the NPA said stopping her arrest and having her attending a court case differently would set a wring precedence and send a wrong message to the general public.
The Judge presiding over the matter agreed with the NPA and also said that Mapisa-Ngcakula failed to give a valid reason why she should receive a special treatment.
Her application was dismissed with costs.
