South African Police Service (SAPS) have once again found themselves having to face Senekal like scenes in front of a court.

This follows what Mpumalanga acting Police Commissioner Major General Thulani Phahla called an unruly behaviour as well as acts of lawlessness displayed by a group of individuals who destroyed other people’s properties, including state vehicles as well as looted some items from a store during a court appearance of five murder suspects at Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court.

The incidents occurred on Monday morning in retaliation of an alleged murder of deceased brothers Mgcini Coko, 36, and Zenzele Coko, 39 who were shot and killed at Pampoenkraal Farm at Dirkieskop earlier this month.

Reports allege that the two brothers were brutally killed by farm owners while they were trying to rescue other members of the community who came to look for a job.

The case caught wide attention with political parties, Freedom Front Plus (FF+) and Democratic Alliances (DA) accusing the police of being biased and harsh towards accused.

The DA also called for transparency on the matter.
