Mpumalanga Department of Education says they have handed over a murder case of a grade 11 learner who hanged himself at the school in Emalahleni this past Friday.

Reports started making rounds on social media about a 17 years old boy learner from Kriel Hoerskool in one of the classroom storages.

Education MEC in the province Bonakele Majuba said at the moment they have handed over the matter to the police who have opened an inquest docket. In addition to that he asked for the community to rather distance themselves from unfounded allegations.

These follows allegation that were made about a young girl who allegedly accused the young man of raping her and later on saying that she lied.

“The Department has noted with concern the rumours that are doing rounds on social media about a planned protest by some community members from the Kriel Community.”

“The concern is premised by the potential to disrupt the writing of the final examinations in the area.”

“It is alleged that a group called “Justice for Bafana” is planning a protest march and are intending to barricade the gates of  Kriel Hoërskool tomorrow [Monday].”

MEC Majuba urged the community to not engage in any form of disruption that has a potential of negatively affecting the learners psychologically and endagering their prospects of passing.
