Stevens Mokgalapa to remain executive Mayor of City Tshwane for a little longer after ousted through a motion of no confidence together Speaker Katlego Mathebe.
The two Democratic Alliance (DA) were voted out through a motion that was put on the table opposition parties in the council, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African National Congress (ANC).
His ousting was a build up that gained momentum after recent video alleging that the mayor and MMC Sheila had sex in the office resurfaced.
The DA took the matter to court after Mokgalapa was voted. They wanted the court to declare the outcome null and void.
They were claiming that the processes the council followed were flawed. The Economic Freedom Fighters declined to support the DA in retaining the sit, they in return voted for the removal of the pair.
In Friday’s judgment, the High Court in Pretoria ruled that all decisions made on 5 December at the council sitting including Mokgalapa and Mathebe’s removals, were to be set aside pending the outcome of the urgent review into the proceedings.
