Finance Minister Tito Mboweni forced to backtrack on his insensitive tweet about a person who was killed during a Wits student’s protest.
Minister Mboweni had said in a tweet that the person who was shot and killed allegedly by the police was just a bystander and not student.
But the the tweet was later on deleted seeing the backlash from various social media users including leaders of some organisations who asked the Minister if the victim’s life was less important because he is not a student.
“My information is that there Was no student who was killed! Fake news circulating. No deserving student will be left out. Minister Ndzimande will deal with matter tomorrow,” Mboweni tweeted.
It was later on alleged that the man was shot by the police on his way from a clinic.
