Man disguised as a traditional healer rapes a 17 years old girl

A 33 years old man who presented himself to a vulnerable family under the disguise of being a traditional healer has been sentenced to a life imprisonment by Madadeni Magistrates Court for raping a 17 years old teenager in April 2022.
NPA spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said that the now convicted man, befriended the mother to the young girl, upon realizing that the young was getting sick more often, he offered to use his gifts as a traditional healer to help her get healed.
“He suggested to the mother that he can heal the young girl with traditional medicine so she need not go to hospital. Her mother agreed to the proposal.”
“On the afternoon of the incident, he fetched the girl from her home telling her mother that he would take the girl to the river for a cleansing ritual, followed by a prayer meeting with the other congregants. The girl went with him. However, he took her to his house under the guise of waiting for the other congregants to arrive.”
Kara added that he forcefully undressed and raped her twice and released her in the early morning hours.
She reported the matter to her mother and sister upon arriving at home.
