Makwarela could face criminal charges for presenting fake certificate

The circus continues to play itself in the capital city, City of Tshwane following the discovery of the supposed certificate by “Executive Mayor” Dr Murunwa Makwarela who was disqualified from being the mayor in less than 5 days for being insolvent.
Makwarela was disqualified in terms of Section 47(1)(c) of the Constitution, which states that people who are insolvent cannot hold public office.
Makwarela later on presented a certificate alleging that he had gone under rehabilitation and was reinstated to the position as the mayor.
The Chief Registrar of the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division Pretoria confirmed through a statement that the document submitted by Cope’s Dr Murunwa Makwarela, which essentially allowed him to occupy the capital city’s mayors office is fake.
Makwarela’s supposed certificate received wide scrutiny from opposition and various analysts who said that there was lot of mistakes and the High Court in Tshwane was also mentioned in the certificate which made it easier for referral and verification.
Ledwaba has further confirmed that the matter will now be referred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations, which is expected to result in Makwarela facing criminal charges.
